Default Signal switch

In the continued effort to rewire my car and get everything set for my inspection I have to pass by the end of April or early May I think I am going to replace my turn signal harness this weekend.

I have a pretty good idea of how to do it but I was wondering if anyone had done this lately and might have any tips or advice, things to watch out for, etc, etc.

I need a new switch anyway but hoping it will also inspire my horns to start working :-)

My tip: Use real pin connector extraction/insertion tools, not screwdrivers, etc.

The new TS cam will feel crisp when you turn now. *click* Re-set your turn signal lever with locktight on the threads, too.

It sometimes helps to loosen the column at the dash brackets for "wiggle room". OW the first two posters gave you some pretty good tips.

Thanks for the tips guys.

I didn't get a chance to really get to work on it this evening because the wife held me up with crap around the house so I couldn't sneak out to the garage till about 10:20 p.m.

But I did got out there and finally got brave enough to unwrap the 25 yards of electrical tape the previous owner had on some of the wires...I was studying the wires basically and just learning some general information about what goes where.

However, I noticed something strange and may answer a problem the car has had since I have owned it. Coming out of the steering column there is a green with white stripe wire that goes to the park lights on the front. There is a green with orange stripe that goes to the rear driver's side turn signal. These wires are spliced together and it doesn't look like they should be that way. So I unspliced them but then the rear driver's side turn signal didn't work. So for now I re-spliced them together and it works again.

My guess is this could be why my park lights come on when I hit the brakes?

I am hoping maybe the new turn signal switch will fix the need to have these two wires spliced together and hopefully stop my park lights from coming on when braking.
