manual steering question
Starfury is right ratios dont change by removing PS components. In fact the new gear box I got was the same ratio and the original gearbox.
What I meant by being a bit slower was from the added resistance. It requires far more effort to turn the MS setup BUT....the PS setup was so aggressive it was far overkill.
I think the MS setup is great and does not require excessive force to operate but does require a goodly amount of effort when compared to the PS setup.

When my daughter was about 18, she was driving a '66 with the PS gearbox but with the power assist disabled (long story, don't remember all of the details).

Agreed, don't try to sit in one spot and turn the wheel it just ain't gonna work. As long as you are rolling just a bit you can turn it with some effort. I prefer the manual steering with the quick ratio box because I get a better feel for things. Had an straight 6 with power once. That was just silly. Way to easy to turn.
Thanks for the input.
I already drove it that way before with the I6 and manual steering. I figured it would just stress things trying to turn while standing still.
It is now about to recieve its 302. I wonder how much heavier a 302 with aluminum heads and intake is versus a 200.
I thought it would drive better with the quick ratio box. Parallel parking might be a different story though. LOL...
Didn't the 65-66 Shelby cars come with the quick ratio box and manual steering?

All GT cars, whether or not they had p/s, had the short-ratio box. I don't know if any early GT350's had p/s or not, but they would've had the short box, as well as the quick-steer idler and pitman arms.
