Default Another 68 power steering question

OK, so my last problem on my 68 was my power steering hoses getting pulled against the exhaust headers when i turned left so i routed them under my lower control arm. Now, the problem is when i turn the wheel all the way to the left the belt starts skipping on it and it makes a horrible noise and shakes violently (the power steering pump). should I just replace the power steering pump and control valve.(control valve is leaky, and pump makes terrible noise when i turn in either direction)or should I just take it to a mechanic?
