Nah, that ain't from a leaking carb. At least not any excessive leaking. Look at any daily driver carb, and that brown crap is on them. That's a natural phenomen with carburetors.
Maybe I am too careful? Previous car I had was equiped with factory installed Tri-Power and with that carb system I became little a bit "sensitive" everything which concern any sing of leaking fuel [sm=badbadbad.gif] . There were in that system no leaks, but too many pictures and storyes of burned cars.

Back to business, michaeldoggrell you have nice car and with reasonable work you get it really great condition.

Usually, if there is a leaking carburetor, the fuel will puddle at the rear of the carb on the intake. No puddle, no leak to worry about.

Yes, Mine looks exactly like his, It has a bend in it, then it bends upward. There the rubber line connects to it. SO his is fine by looking at it. I would love to answer anymore questions about it so if you need me, you know where the thread is.
So how is the hose to the modulator held in place? are there clamps attached to the transmission body that keeps it from flopping in the breeze?
That really supprised me. Kind of a funky way to do things. I'd fab up an aluminum or steel line that goes all the way down with a short "coupling" hose to the modulator. I understand the reason for a rise in the line, but you only need to exceed the float level and that could be done with a nice looking upside down "U" in the line right before the bend to follow the bell housing. It would look so clean, and less worries of the hose cracking and causing a pain in the neck vacuum leak.

They really left it bent up in the air like that! Wow, it looks like the hose is rubbing on the aircleaner housing on Michaels car.

Thanks for the info!

Im sorry, The hose just curves around and goes back to another steel line going to the tranny. SO yes, a steel line goes down to the tranny. The hose is just a easy way to connect it because it doesn't get in the way.

OK cool that makes sense. Also gives a little more vibration isolation. Thanks for the insites. Hopefully that will help Michael get his fixed correctly.

Hey guys
I have Been getting some great replies here. Super. I am cleaning up the carb now and underneath all the dust & dirt ... what do ya know ... a shiny carb.
So soaring u said that there was a list numbers in the choke tower. I cant seem to find it though so can you pinpoint the location ? Or is there any other way to see what kind of carb i got ?

The only numbers i saw on the carb was 180 in the middle of a circle. Does anybody know what this number is or how i can define what carb i got (so i can order a kit to fix it).

PS: I'm sorry if my english isn't so great, i live in belgium europe and my native language is i dutch. So if i make any mistakes or give some parts a weird name ... i am sorry ... I learned english from watching shows like knight rider, a-team, chips etc ...

Your English is just fine. Beats the heck out of my German/Dutch...The number will be stamped on the carb, or there will be a metal tag attached to one of the top bolts on the corner of the carb. Just guessing, but do you think you have an original Autolite carb? Here is a picture of the 2100 Autolite that is a 2V carb used back then.
