Default Looking for a motor.

I'm looking for a motor for my 68 mustang. Looking along the lines of a 289 or 302. I would like to have a complete engine in nice working condition. I live in Hickory, NC so if you have any ideas let me know.

If you lived near Houston...I am going to pull and sell my 289 sometime in the near future.

It runs but uses some oil. My best guess is my heads need to be rebuilt (i.e. sticky valve) since it only really smokes when you let it sit and idle for a while.

Keep an eye on your local Craig's list. I see 289's / 302's on there pretty regular where someone is pulling a motor to upgrade to a stroker, etc. Seems like they are usually $750 to $1,000 or more. But you have to be pretty much the first one to see the ad and contact them immediately because they seem to go really fast.

I gave up myself. One time there was a running performance type 302 that someone had placed the ad that morning and by the time I heard back from them about 2 hours later it was already gone. Caught myself wondering how fast exactly did you have to get there. So I said screw it and plan to have one built.
