Default '66 Console Compartment door????

Does anyone have a drawing or the ability to explain how the door on the console compartment is supposed to work. I believe the only pieces needed are the springs and the door (that's all I have anyway). I can't figure out how the door attaches to the console.

Any help appreciated.....

The door doesn't attach to the console. The springs attach to the console, and the door floats on them.

OK. But how do the springs attach to the console, and how do the springs attach to the door. The only way I've figured is to have the S shaped part on the floor, and the staple shaped end hold the door, but it's real wonky. Is it supposed to operate smoothly?

I can wait, no problem. I checked out your site, that's a pretty sweet ride you have there. I'll be viewing it much more when I do my Classic Air system.

I found a picture on a CJ Pony Parts tech page that help. It shows that you need screws to hold the springs in place, but I can't figure out if they go into the (missing) mounting bracket or what. I'll try it tonight.

Scott H., I'm interested in the same AC system as you have but didn't think I'd have to modify the light mechanism. I thought you just had to open up one corner ..... Oh well. Also, did you special order your kit to get 4 ball vents? I like that much better than the way the system comes.

The springs screw to the plastic floor of the console box.

Scott H., thanks for the pictures, I can see what you are talking about now. I need to find the mounting bracket for the console as I don't have that. John's Mustang doesn't seem to carry it (they didn't even know what an oil pump driveshaft was !?!), so I'll find it at one of the other Mustang parts houses.

Thanks for all your help.
