Finally PROGRESS!!
I'm glad to see your back at it. I would go with a T5, but there is nothing wrong with keeping rebuilding the 4 speed. I think if your pateint and pay close attention to what your doing, rebuilding the 4 speed yourself will work out fine.
If your staying with the stock engine, I'd go with 2.25 inch or 2.5 max and some Dymomax Ultraflow or Super Turbo mufflers, or maybe Magnaflow.
There is no point to running 3 inch exhaust on even a mildly built motor. Also, I've had Flowmaster on more than a few vehicles over the years, and I'll never do it again. The hollow tin can sound and droning is terrible. I had them on my 65 for 6 months and that was enough for me. It has Ultraflows now and everyone thinks it sounds better.

On the subject of finding a T5 though, I know the best way would be to find one still in a car so I know the car condition, mileage, ect. But is there anyway to get a good idea of the health of a unit that is not in the car?
Well....almost two years later I'm finally getting back at it. We had our first daughter about a month after the last post, so needless to say I've been a little distracted.
Decided to rebuild the original T10, did a lot of thinking about how I want to use the car and what I want it to be and that led me to rebuilding...

Engine prepped and loaded up, I dropped it off at the machine shop today after work. He said roughly two months to finish it, will know for sure once he tears it apart. All I know is I'll need all of that time to complete the shopping list and get all of the odds and ends done. Spent a couple hours cleaning the engine bay, really need to just push it out of the garage and power wash it.

I took the voltage regulator cover off to repaint it, the gasket pretty much disintegrated when I did. Looking online I can find the gasket with a new cover, but not just the gasket. Anyone know where I can get one? Or is making my own the only option past buying the new cover?
Engine and headlight wiring harness' removed, I didn't want to have to buy new ones yet, but they are very brittle and it beats running the risk of starting a fire:

Engine bay pretty much stripped and ready for a power wash, next step is to prep it and give it a good coat before the engine goes back in:
