The FR500's do look pretty good on that car. You would have to have the wheels in the front narrowed though since they don't come any narrower than 9".

You could probably get them to fit with a spacer on the front like an 1.5" one since they have 6.2" backspacing.

The mustang that I posted had them narrowed. Since its lowered it probably would have ran into clearance issues with the spacers. My suspension isn't stock width in the front or rear so I'm not sure I'd be able to make them work at all.

give me the keys to any of those stangs in the pictures you posted and guarantee i will destroy the fenders and tires.

i never said they didnt LOOK good. but chances are, they dont DRIVE good. if you drive like a pus$y then by all means, go for it.

Well if that's the case then you would destroy the fenders no matter what size wheel because as I said before THEY HAVE THE SAME OUTER DIMENSIONS!!!! So what exactly is your argument?

That's kinda my point. I think jon is having a problem with the lowered stance of these cars and is somehow relating that to running 18" wheels. Who knows.

I think it's the combination of several things, not just the lowering or the 40 mm or so wider tires.

One of these "other" things is the anticipated use of the car, and it gets really difficult for some of us to understand the logic behind making big functional compromises for the sake of appearance. A show car does not experience nearly the amount of suspension travel nor does it need as much steering lock as a car that's used as a DD, never mind anything that really works the suspension such as autocross. Hence, a dedicated show car can "get away with" lots of things that cars in more normal service can't. I can guarantee that I'd be putting tires into fenders on any of the cars in the above pictures on a daily basis.

I'm pleasantly surprised to find out that you're looking at decent size tires (quite frankly, I was afraid you might be considering something scrawny like 215/40), and I really do think that these cars need at least 245-wide tires. I also know that a lot of work is involved to make it work right. There is a guy on a couple of other forums who has done a pretty good job of flaring the fenders and quarters to take massive tires. Build story here. Pictures as (nearly) complete including some autocross videos HERE. So it can be done.

FWIW, my '08 has 18's, and I still have mixed feelings, though I find it easier to live with the 18" wheel with 50 or lower profile tires than the taller profile tires that 17 would require. From a distance, 18's look in proportion to the rest of the car (particularly given its slightly taller than Classic Mustang height). But up close enough to wash them or check tire pressure where you don't see much more than tire and wheel, they're still huge.

I will say this. This forum is mainly purist that belive if the car came with 14" wheels that what it should stay with. You open a can of worms asking wheel questions here, mianly if you want anything bigger then 15".I put TT2 17" wheels on my car before they even hit the market and 15 years later, people are barely accepting it.

Look on Stangnet or proturing.com for actual answers and not b.s. of how dumb it will look or people pushing what they "think" all Mustangs should be.

I put 18's and 17's on mine. I like it. If you dont, I am ok with it. I know im going to run into a lot of people that think i bastardised this car. But hey it has bigger rims, bigger brakes, bigger motor, bigger suspension, And a big pair of ******* in the passenger seat!
