Default removing old bushings

so, after my little run in with the dirt bank a while back, i sat back and said ok, enough of the mustang for a bit, i need to save my cash. while i wasnt driving it, i pull apart the front suspension, and mostly fixed the bent up bits with a hammer and torch. got some cash, ordered a new disck brake kit and some front end bushings.
now, my question is, does anyone have a good technique for getting thoe old bushings out of the lower control arms? (or in general really) i dont have a press, but i was thinking somthing like using a clamp and a piece of pipe?

on a side note, in the bushing kit, the lower arm set comes with two sizes, a pair of 1 9/16" and a pair of 1 7/16". which one would i use?? i have four bushings for two arms?
