Question Ways To Lock Hood

What is everyone using to lock the hood of their classic Mustang? Acutally more specifically 65-66, since the 67-68 has a different latch.

I was looking for something that is fairly easy to install without cutting up the car much. I'm also not interested in hood pins etc. I don't want holes in the hood.

Is there some type of lock that is made for this application that just has a key in the lower part of the grille?

A friend of mine has a 65 fastback that he just got a few months ago. It came with some type of chain with a slide lock that uses a key. You open the hood about 6 inches and then you can access the lock. I'm not sure this is the way I would want to go, but its better than nothing.

I don't know about locking the hood but I am considering this http://www.ravelco.com/ for my classic truck and the mustang. They are located in Houston, TX and have a few places throughout Texas.

I'll be watching this thread though since I'm planning on changing my hood to get rid of the hood pins.

I had thought about adding something like that to my Mustang. Yeah I really don't want hood pins either.

Has anyone used this?

my unclue used to use a bike lock on his firebird he had to disallow kids he would race to look at his motor....i imagine its possible to hook it to the hook or w/e u wanna call it where the trouble light can hang....then wrap it around the thermostat housing or something....what are u afraid will happen if ur hood can be opened without a lock?

I have been searching for a solution to this also. If someone had a set of screw drivers and sockets, they could get 1,000 dollars worth of parts off my car in 20 minutes (MSD, carb, maniforld, distrib, etc...) so I would like it to be difficult for them.
Yeah I know they could call a tow truck but I want to make it harder for them...

I just don't want would be vandals or thieves to have easy access to the engine compartment. My car is usually parked in the garage, but does spend some evenings parked at friends houses. Its usually in the driveway, but sometimes is parked in the street. Also, When I take it places like maybe out to eat dinner, I don't want some punk to come along and do something to it or steal parts.

Also, if they have access to the engine it is much easier to hotwire the car.

I know the part your talking about, its the safety catch for the hood latch. I hang the trouble light there all the time too. I thought about just a longer chain or bike lock type cable and routing it from the hood at the saftey catch to the front part of the frame. I'm not sure I would hook it to the thermostat housing.

20 minutes? Do you expect them to stop for a bite to eat?
I could clean all that out in 10 tops. I'm watching this thread for ideas as I'm in the same boat. I find thinking like a thief helps in blocking a thief. If my hood were handy, I'd look into and post some ideas. At the moment, the car and hood are separated...
