I don't know how you're supposed to do it but I had hell of a time putting mine back on. I took them out because there was not enough tension to hold up the deck lid after we put the wing on. I should have just dealt with it. I finally got it using a pair of vise grips and a long screw driver to pry. Damn thing sprung loose on me several times scary. Now I removed the the wing and the deck lid flies up pretty violently if you don't hold it. My dad didn't know it and went the pop the trunk one day and it almost caught him. Should have seen his face it was hilarious.

You don't. Get 2 gas struts and use them instead. I just installed 2 in ours and work like a charm.. except I got them too strong. Used 2 x 100Lbs struts however I'll be swapping them out for 2 x 60Lbs instead. Trunk opens too hard with the 100s. A single 100 will not open and 2 should be installed anyways for balance.

I got the struts and hardware at a local truck cap shop for under 60.00 for both.
