4-point Safety Harness Selection
#11
Well, that depends on the sanctioning body and what class you run in as well. The DOT approved Schroth harnesses are not SFI approved, so they'd be pointless in a race car that requires it, and their SFI harnesses aren't DOT approved. The street harnesses have been tested with them anchored at the rear seat lap belt location and passed DOT testing on impact dummies that collect injury data. They also meet the more strict German DOT equivalent. But, the thing to remember is that the DOT harnesses are designed for street cars, not race cars. Once you get into the realm of needing an SFI harness then you have to meet that SFI requirement. The thing to remember in a street car though, is if you have a non DOT harness and get in a wreck, you run the risk that your insurance may not cover your injuries, then you're fubar'd.
