2+2 do you think I should buy a new set of mounts? Good to see your from PA. Where about?
Near Philadelphia.

The problem is you can't get the right motor mounts, if you need the C7ZE (2286) type, nobody makes them. Use this pattern to modify the brackets, then you can use the C6OE (2257) mounts everybody sells.

I'm with 2+2GT. I ran into this problem with my '67 (which uses those 2286 mounts), although it wasn't quite so clear at the time, and I probably didn't notice the space in between the one mount I did get to bolt up and the frame bracket. This does sound like it's your problem, though.

My solution was to get '68 frame brackets. Then you can use the widely available mounts without any problem. The other option is to go with a set of RMP adjustable mounts, which are stronger and pretty nifty, but also expensive.

Once you've removed the old frame brackets you can sell them as big block brackets, as they're the same as the 390/428FE crowd needs.

I am in the midst of converting a 66 I-6 car to a 302 and my motor mounts will not line up at all. I loosened all the bolts and got a bolt through one side and the other motor mount is about 1 1/2" away form lining up. I broke down and just ordered the Ron Morris adjustable mounts.

Well, if you get to the point of changing the frame brackets, you might want to consider the RMP mounts.

I know they are cheaper than buying ALL of the stock stuff...

I still say if they came off they should go back...
