Default 66 radio problems

Im trying to install the original radio back into my 66. I bought the car without the radio in it since the previous owner installed an aftermarket one. When I hook up the radio to a power supply, antenna, and speaker outside of the car it works fine. When I install the radio inside the car all I get is a faint static but when I touch the antenna I can hear music a little clearer/louder but its still not as good as when its hooked to the power supply. I brought the power supply into the car and hooked the ground up to it and it works great just like it did outside of the car. So it seems to be something wrong with the ground and/or antenna. Any ideas?

maybe your antenna is poorly insulated? I haven't messed with the radio a whole lot yet so who knows, I could be way off.
