Default Help with Grill

Today I received my new front GT grill. I put together the Horse and Coral and the GT bars, fog lamps etc.

Does anyone have details on how to install the grill to the Coral and GT bars? I know the grill needs to be bent, but I dont want to screw things up. My Shop Manual does not have the information on this for some reason.

Thanks for your help. I dont want to make any mistakes on this one.

Are you talking about the back part of the grille needing to be bent?

I had that issue with the honey comb part on my 65 when I put the GT grille on it. I just finessed it into place bending it slighltly a few times until I could get it into place.

Ok! Great got it!

Now the fun part. Can someone with a grill on a 67 snap me a picture of their top brackets?

My brackets dont line up. Maybe im installing out of order. I do have the front molding on already. Does that go on last?

Here is picture of what im working with. Nothing lines up. The grill brackets are throwing everything off. I bought this grill from mustangs unlimited. In all honesty its a flimsy POS.

This is my second grill set. My first set went in and out with no problems. I had a buddy offer me some money for my old one so I sold it off about 2 years ago since I was pulling the engine and repainting and would not be done for a year or so. Today was D day with the new grill set and what a disaster. Nothing lines up. Before I installed the horse and coral and gt bars with out the gril on the car. This time there is no possible way.

What am I doing wrong? I want to be as careful as possible so I dont need to replace anything or have to touch up paint so I want to do things right. I feel like a failure since I basically rebuilt every aspect of my car my self and the stupid grill has got the best of me right now. My wife told me to just cut the brackets off but I really want to do it properly even though thats the easy way out

At this point how im seeing things in the pictures, there is no way to make this grill work with out cutting them off. I am going to take this grill to our local NPD to compare to see if maybe the one I have is wrong.

What do you think is the problem here?

Thanks guys

I agree about them being flimsy crap. Mine came from CJ Pony and its wimpy. My factory non GT grille is way stronger. I have partially collapsed mine a couple times while working on the car.

I have been told that the repop grilles are not very stiff.

I didn't encounter any problems when installing mine. I don't know exactly how it goes together on a 67. Its been too long ago that I worked on a 67-68 for me to remember.

Hopefully someone else can be of more help.

It looks to me like it may require more finesse work. Did the regular grille have the same tabs on it? For those tabs to work correctly that would mean that the grille would need to move forward and down right?

Original grilles were harder. Aluminum hardens with age, so the softness of new ones seems even worse by comparison. Not all repros are the same, either. Who made yours?

There is a step in the top bracket. If you increase the bend to look like a Z, it'll pop right in, DON'T cut them off. Without the tabs, your lamps will wobble.

The one I have now is made by a company called ms. I bought it for $67 bucks new. i belive the one from npd is around 80ish if that has anything to do with quality.

I like the bending like a z idea, I will give it a go after checking out a few more repops.

Which name brand should I be asking for? I want to say my first on was from scott drake 2 years ago.

Now for the horse and gt bars. With my space issue, it seems as of now they will have to be installed once the grill goes on because of the long posts on the back of the horse coral bang into the center hood latch support during the install.

Like I said, with my first grill, it went on and off with no problems. Lol, what a joke

I can take some pics of my grille on my 67 later. I just got back from surgery and need some rest.

Thanks, do you remember if you had to bend the top brackets on yours?

edit: Also when you installed the piece with the horse, did you do it with the grill on the car? My reason for asking is on mine, it looks like two bolts attach through the hood latch support.

My grille doesn't have the brackets that go to the hood stops.

Yes, I put the corral on with the grille already on the car.
