Help me decide...
I just bought a 1966 Mustang. I cant remember everything it has on it but its pretty heavily modded. It has a '78 302 block with forged pistons, aluminum intake, aluminum heads, 4bbl holley 650 DP, edelbrock valve covers, high pressure oil pump, roller rockers, comp cam, and all the other upgraded add-ons. The tranny is a C-4 with a B&M streetfighter shifter with an different stall converter (forget which one) and a mild shift kit. It also has a 9" rear end with 3.73s and stronger axels. $1k disk brake converson kit up front as well. 15" weld pro star rims and KYB shocks all around. And a few other things. all with 10k on the drivetrian.
My question is which way should I restore this car? My first impression was to clean it up and keep the restomod look. But I am starting to think I could get more out of the car by parting it out and returning it back to stock. The car has the original data plate. original C-code, silver blue, california car. no rust. needs complete interior. If I were to restore it I have a 289 that I am freshly rebuilding now and can take out the 302 and sell it. How much do you think I could get for the complete 302 engine all assembled? I would also probably remove the 9" and B&M shifter and sell those as well.
Which would be more economical? restore the car to original condition or keep the resto mod look and clean it up? I know its up to me but I am looking for which way would be cheaper in the end (after selling parts, etc.) and would hold a better value.
thanks

Sounds like its already nicely modified so just finish it off. Its a stronger car then anything stock. The car is worth much more with those mods then removing them and putting in original parts. I'd just finish it off and then if your still not happy sell it and buy a stock one.
I couldn't imagine anyone removing a 9" Ford rearend to replace it with an 8"! Just my opinion however.

Yea I have restored quite a bit of mustangs in the past but havent really done the restomod thing. They have all been original "hubcap" mustangs. I think this one would be interesting to try the restomod out on but if I could get a good penny for the aftermarket parts by parting it out then I would go that route instead.
I will post some pics when I get home tonight.

Although I'm typically a 'restore it to original' type I agree that it wouldnt be worth anymore in stock form. I think they made about 500,000 coupes (literally) in 66 so there are still quite a few of them around. Take a look at EZ's couple, that is one fine looking stang.
I say keep the mods and clean it up. Doesn't look from the pics that it would take that much. Brakes are a safety item that should be done any ways. Rear end is a big plus that only improves the resell of car. I dont know what kind of rust problems you will encounter but it looks like a good car.
