Default Back up lights...

Ok, So my back up lights were cut off by the previous owner... My question is this...

I know on like the 65s they were optional... I have a 68, am I required by law to have them on my car if I am to drive it on the road? Or can I just not have to deal with it and have one less thing to worry about?

Thanks

Anyplace I have ever lived, operating BU lights were required. Further, even on a 65, where they were NOT required, if they were on the car they had to work.

A fairly easy system to fix, though.

Ok... Well one of the previous owners cut both the neutral safety switch wire *Not sure if he was going to do a Std Tranny swap or what* And what I've been told were the back up light wires so that little plug just has four cut wires on it and I'm not sure where the back up light wires are that actually come from the back up lights to the front.

4 cut wires? Why does your starter work? Either splice them, being careful about the color codes, or get a new NS switch, which includes that wire and plug. The BU wiring is already in the car, the next step is to see how the rest of the system looks.

lol, The neutral Safety switch was spliced together... Well, Not spliced but twisted together. I was told the other two wires on that plug were the back up lights. And I'm well aware that the whole harness under the hood has been butchered. I've done my best so far to put it back together and eventually I will get a new harness. I kinda wish I had 350 dollars when I first joined the site, so I could have bought that whole harness kit from that one guy who was selling the painless kit. I'm not worried about the Safety Switch as I plan to eventually put a T5 in it so it won't be needed anyway.
One has to wonder why anyone would cut up a Harness needlessly unless it was needed to be done to put a 71 302 in a 68 289 Coupe???

But the Back Up lights, I guess I will have to tackle one day when it's not hot outside and I have the time, buy some correct color wire extensions and splice them back together.

Adding: For the most part, the headlights, tail lights and brake lights work. What is NOT working are the back up lights being as they are cut off and the wires has been cut from under the hood, the turn signals, and park lights *Which I know they are the same thing but they go hand in hand*... Oh And my dash lights don't work either.
