Try to find a dip stick that is made in the USA. On my brand new engine I installed 3 yes 3. The first chrome one just fell in the hole with a gap so large it wouldnt seat. The second one was so tight it broke off like yours and I had to drop the pan. The 3rd one finally worked correctly.
