Currie has a 4-pinion Traction Lok that should be up to the job.

If you are running 350 hp or over you are going to need to upgrade your rear end. Why not go to an 8.8 inch rear end. They can be built up just as strong as a 9 inch and are lighter.

That 4 pinion traction lok was great till I got some real hp and torque! Blew that thing up on about the 4th pass!!! Go with a 9"

Whether or not it lives is entirely up to suspension and driving. I've been running an 8" for years with 0 issue, but I run street tires. Drag tires and it probably wouldn't last long if I launched hard. That said, there are also quite a few people who have pulled sub 1.60 60's on 8" rear ends for several seasons and not blown them up. Currie has an aluminum center section that's stronger than stock, otherwise you could look for a 9" somewhere, they're plentiful enough.

Cost wise? Is it better to get a center section or third member pumpkin as they call em for the 8 with a posi or a complete 9 inch?

If you could find a junkyard swap 9" that's the right width, that'd be cheaper.

I would uprade to a 9 inch. Here is some info that might help you.

http://www.woodyg.com/fairlane/finfo/fordrears.html

There are not very many factory Ford 9 inch rear ends that will fit a 65-66 Mustang with out modification to the rear end.

The Versailles is a good way to go or a 50's Ford sedan.

It depends how hard you drive your car. I agree that if you have quite a bit of power your better off with the 9 inch.

I have a Versailles in my 65.
