8 inch or 9 inch
i have a 65 mustang with a 347 and a 8 inch.. of course a 9 inch would be nice but i wondered the age old questions always asked.. should i just put some money into a posi with good gear ratio in my 8 inch... or should i just save up for a 9 inch... was wondering if anyone just ran a 8 inch and where did u guys get ur posi from?
Currie has a 4-pinion Traction Lok that should be up to the job.

Whether or not it lives is entirely up to suspension and driving. I've been running an 8" for years with 0 issue, but I run street tires. Drag tires and it probably wouldn't last long if I launched hard. That said, there are also quite a few people who have pulled sub 1.60 60's on 8" rear ends for several seasons and not blown them up. Currie has an aluminum center section that's stronger than stock, otherwise you could look for a 9" somewhere, they're plentiful enough.
I would uprade to a 9 inch. Here is some info that might help you.

There are not very many factory Ford 9 inch rear ends that will fit a 65-66 Mustang with out modification to the rear end.
The Versailles is a good way to go or a 50's Ford sedan.
It depends how hard you drive your car. I agree that if you have quite a bit of power your better off with the 9 inch.
I have a Versailles in my 65.
