Default Clogged fuel filter or bad pump?

Hey everyone, new to the forum so please be easy on me...

Here is my current issue:

So this afternoon I was out for a cruise in the Shelby (68 GT500KR with the 428) and after about 20-25 miles of driving I was starting to lose power going up hills; bogging, sputtering etc. The gas gauge was low so I filled her up with 93 and continued on my way. About ten minutes later it started to sputter and bog going up hills again until finally it quit on me. I cranked it over and over again and finally she caught and I was able to take off. I made it back to the house after doing this about 5 different times . Now my best educated guess is telling me a clogged fuel filter but I'm questioning that because those first 20 or so miles were trouble free, and there were times in the beginning of the drive when I was calling for a lot of fuel. Could it maybe be the fuel pump??

Just an fyi, the car sits a LOT! It always runs rough when it first gets going but has never died on me before.

Thanks for reading my short novel and I appreciate any and all advice/opinions!

i bet 10:1 its a clogged jet, modern fuel contains ethanol, which absorbs water and creates ton of problems in carburetors, especially when they sit, this has affected me tremendously in power sport applications, marine, and automotive.

I had the same basic problem for a while. My filter would clog up and the stang would start sputtering then die. After the filter clogged if i waited about 5 min the stang would start up and make it about 5-10 miles then do it again. Just changing the filter the stang made it about 30 miles and the filter clogged again with a rusty mudd type substance. My tank had been rusting out and the fuel pick-up was restricted to a little more than a pin hole. changed the filter and replaced fuel tank and pick-up have not had a problem since.

ha! in any case i'd do the fuel filter first, that would be the easier, and the pump last. go from easiest to hardest, i had my brand new filter clog some how, started and ran, then would die, the more you started it, the less amount of time it would run, until it stopped completely. took the filter off, dumped it out, was very puzzled and confused cause it was new, but it back on. haven't had a problem sense. any kind of water or air bubble in the screen of the filter will mess up your weekend.

Thanks for the help guys. Took the fuel filter off this morning and it was plugged solid, I couldn't even get air through it with the compressor. Unfortunately it was clogged with that rusty mud. Probably looking at a new fuel tank as well.
