Default Headliner

Just wondering what the insolation is in a 71. I still have whatever they used originally and i was wondering if anyone knows what its made out of. I was worried it may be asbestos. Ive been riding around with my head liner ripped for a while but a few weeks ago while on the highway it ripped a few places from seam to seam. I got a replacement one sitting here I was going to put in but depending on what the insolation is (I was planning on leaving it or just taking it out without putting something else in.) I was wondering if it would be better to take it to someone.

No, it's not asbestos, and stop watching those mesothelioma commercials on TV.

The insulation was fairly thin fiberglass, glued to the underside of the roof. Annoying, but harmless.

If you take out the insulation, the sun shining on your roof will bake you.

The hardest part of replacing the headliner is removing and installing the rear glass. The windshield can remain in.

Thanks couldn't find any references to what it was anywhere and I had a few people at work telling me it may be. If I can get whats in there to stay in place with a bit of glue I will probably leave it. Don't have ac anymore and I live in az so I figure I bake either way.

Any tips on doing the rear window? Ive seen it done in a few other cars but this will be my first attempt at doing this myself.
