toploader & backup light switch pics??
As you can see in Pic#1, in the switch "button" is engaged by the metal part just above the button, when the shift lever is moved into the reverse position. In Pic#2, you can see that I had to tighten the bolt and mounting bracket at an angle, to get a decent alignment between the button and shift lever. I could "bend" things, but choose not to and used it as is.
Hope this helps you out!

That's only gonna help if he has an aftermarket (not factory) Hurst shifter. If he has the factory shifter and switch, I don't have a photo, but it's really easy. The screw hole for attaching is on the back of the shifter.

The switch does not contact the shift lever, is contacts the large steel shaft in the center of the shifter. The switch is oriented on the right side, so that when you move the shift lever all the way to the left it pops out the right side and hits the switch. If you have the lower boot (and you really should) there is a hole provided for the plunger and bracket.

Next time I have one of these out of a car, I swear I'm gonna photograph it. This question comes up a LOT.

I wish I could take a pic of mine but, I have the lower boot. Niether one of those looks like my factory shifter. I have an ear hanging off the front of mine that the rev.....(um, don't know what you call that part that the rod hooks to)...comes up close to when put in reverse. I couldn't find a switch for a 69. Don't know the difference between that and a 68 so, I just put a regular brake light switch (chevy) in there and adjusted it til it worked.
The 70-73 factory-installed Hurst shifter had an integral tab for a self adjusting reverse switch, but the 69 Ford shifter had a more conventional switch similar to 65-68 3-speed switches.
This is the 69 Ford shifter:

Looking at your pics, yours seems to be exactly backwards of mine. I have a RUG-E2 Toploader with (probably) aftermarket Hurst shifter. The guy we bought the car from had replaced the original inline 6 & C4 auto with a 289 & the 4-speed Toploader. However, the car was originally a basic '65, & didn't have back-up lights. I'm adding those now, and am wondering if I just need to reverse your pics to install the switch--once I either find or create one. (It's dark and rainy now, so I haven't been able to *really* get under there and look well tonight).
Thanks!
Thanks!
