Default Removing road tar

Hi, I am wanting to clean and treat the back side of my fenders but I have a good coating of road tar on a section of them above the wheels. I was thinking of sand blasting them and hoping that it would also remove the tar at the same time. Does anyone have an opinion on this. What is the best way, chemically, to remove it.
It is a pretty good coating under there and I don't think the regular consumer products are strong enough. I guess I could blast around it and leave it there.

Sand blasting will take a long time, and possibly distort the panels. WD-40 and a rag will dissolve road tar and leave the paint (or what's left of it) intact.

I second the WD-40, it's all I've ever used.

I have used Lifter 1 I think its called and it works ok. Its safe for paint too. I have never tried the WD40 method before, but have heard from quite a few people that it works. I would try that and then wash it off.

Bug and Tar remover may work as well.

WD-40 Worked great. After soaking in the wd40 I scrubbed with a wire brush and a putty knife. Both worked well but scraping with the putty knife loosened most of it.
After scrapping, I used mineral spitrits to clean up the residue.

Thanks for all the great ideas
