I am currently restoring a 67 Cougar. There are two solenoids with the original design, one for emergency flashers, and one to switch right or left sides. Then there is a motor with three tabs on the shaft, the motor spins and the tabs depress a metal contact to provide power to the bulb momentarily. Each tab sequentially momentarily contacts the light tabs there by providing the sequential operation.

I had not idea they were the original setup was that complicated, since I have never seen one. I guess its not complicated its just actually mechanical. I can see why people often had problem with them working correctly and had to repair them. I remember hearing about that a few times.

Does anyone know if I will need an additional electronic flasher module for emergency flashers? I plan to add them soon too? My 65 did not come with flashers.

My motor turns and depresses the buttons, however the emergency solonoid is locked up, so I am not sequiencing. I am thinking about specifying a new solonoid and soldering it in. I would like a new solid state set up , however for almost $200 I may limp mine for a while. I will take a picture and attach it tonight.

The stock one works. When the emergency flashers is on it just blinks normally so you keep that module and only replace the turn signal one.

I was talking about for that Scott Drake incandescent kit. I want them to sequence during flashers too.

That would be cool to see. Its too bad yours isn't working at 100% though.

Here it is, notice the round metal part on the left is the motor, the tabs are under the white cover, and the two solonoids are the black part on the right. Also, notice all of the wires going to the module.

The deluxe kit is the one to get...my old tail light housings were the original ones and they were faded and rusty. No stuff like new stuff...especially with electronics. One thing that I have learned (and many others on here as well), if you cut corners, you're going to pay for it eventually.

The best advice I can give anyone with an old car is this...It's your car, make sure that you express that when building it. If you prefer the car to be original, then use original style parts...if you like to modify things, then express it in your car.

I'm a resto-mod guy...I'll upgrade the car with newer stuff but I'll try to make everything look like it came from the point in time that the car was made.
