Default Rebuilding shift lever

I'm rebuilding my shift lever with new bushings, springs, and trunnions. While I'm at it, should I grease anything? If so, what kind of grease should I use? Will axle grease work?

Clean and grease everything, especially inside the shift selector. Marine grease is best, but chassis grease will do. If you install a lower shift boot (factory on 66-73) it will stay clean and dry, and less heat and noise will get into the car.
