Another dumb ?
OK guys bare with me. By the way thanks for the info on my last dumb question. Anyway, when I got this 66 mustang coupe with a 200 6 cyl in it, it came with a mounting bracket that attached to the engine block for the alternator but it has a top deck on it with 4or5 bolt holes, looks like where an AC unit would go, my car has no AC unit but I think I recall the former owner saying they were thinking about putting one in, anyway I do not want an AC unit in the car and this thing is big and bulky, etc. I'd like to replace the bracket with a new one just to hold the alternator, the one that it came with has the adjusting arm on it that holds the alternator, this arm can be removed from the rest of the bulky contraption. Everywhere I've looked today for parts, NPD, Paddock, ebay etc. all I can find is this triangle looking bracket thing that I guess holds the alternator. Is this what I need?? cuz my alternator has a bolt that goes all the way thru it and needs a nut on the other end, but I don't see how the triangle thing would hold it, oh well thought you guys could help me and tell me what I need...probably a shop manual! where can I get one of those too. Thanks for your patience...I'm gonna figure this thing out yet.
Thanks though, that at least answers what The triangle thing I've been seeing is and how it works, I couldn't figure out how the hell that thing was going to work on my 6 cylinder, now I know its for an 8. Anyway, do you or anyone out there know what kind of bracket I need for a 200cid 6cyl. block?? pictures help me a lot..duh.
I took the whole thing off my six to put on A/C. On the right front of the block near the oil pan you will see two raised bosses. There is a "U" shaped bracket that bolts to those bosses. The adjustment bracket goes on the upper right bolt of the water pump. I can't remember what the belt number is, but I've got it at home (new Napa belt that is helping hold up a nail in the garage wall
). I'm off on business, If you can wait until Thursday, I can snap a picture of the brackets with dimensions, as well as get you the belt number. Very easy change over.
Before you ask, I don't want to sell mine, I'll include it with the motor when I swap in the V-8. But it would be a very easy thing to duplicate, if you can't find it at a wrecking yard. 1/4" flat bar, a vice, grinder, drill and hacksaw is all you'd need.
lClutchl would you please stop posting those pictures of that beautiful engine/engine bay. I'm getting jealous!!!!!
There's a name for people like you, it's called...Talented, so knock it off! [sm=hail.gif] After about a hundred more
