Default Brake handle return spring, Where does it go?

My car had no parking brake, I am putting it back together piece by piece. Everything is in place and working correctly, except for the "Brake Equalizer Spring" (also called "parking brake lever return spring"). This is the large (1 foot long) spring that connects to the "Parking brake equalizer lever" under the car (the lever that connects the front cable to the parking brake equalizer rod). I just don't know what the other end of the spring connects to.
This is for cars with the parking brake lever, not the foot pedal parking brake. Does anyone know where the other end goes?
