Default 1966 Dimmer Switch

Just a quick question. Did you all screw the dimmer switch to the floor pans and then cut a hole in the carpet for the switch to pop through or did you install it over the carpet?

I have never seen it installed over the carpet but would you believe the directions that came with mine told me to do it that way? Maybe I'm crazy, but I've always seen it the opposite way.

The carpet is installed after the switch. Most manufacturers include a plastic grommet for the hole. Ford didn't use them, throw it away.

My '75 Bronco had a grommet, and I'm pretty sure it was stock. Maybe Ford started using them at a later time.
