when my fan blades were hitting my shroud, it was due to broken motor mounts?

Is there an oil pressure port I can tap into without removing the oil sender?

Hey ,
How hard was it placing the 5.0 in the car? I got a guy who will deliver to my door a rebuilt 5.0 long block for 1125. He claims everything will bolt right up, to include all the stuff from the 289. I dont really believe that.

Thanks

Nice car by the way.

Hey guys/gals,
I finally got around to tearing down the motor a second time. I found the number 1 exhaust lifter bad. It would not even hold a drop of oil. The piston has 4 wear spots that start at the top of the piston and extend to the bottom of the skirt. Can a bad lifter cause this kind of damage? or did I do something wrong? I was using 5w-30 castro high mile oil and lucas stabilizer?

holy crap that second picture make it look deep. is there something stuck in the cylinder? are there fragments of metal in the oil and/or the oil filter? i'd look for 3 things: 1) something stuck in the bore or a botched bore job 2) something has failed and clogged your lifter and destroyed your piston (and probably bearings) or 3) something fell into the engine during the build or the block wasn't cleaned after machining.

Hi,Those scratches are super deep. The piston has 030 scribed on the top so I think it been bored over once. I will take a photo of the cylinder later tonight. The scratches may be to deep to go .040 over. I think the only life the block has is sleeving.

The only thing stuck in the walls is a piece of the piston. I cant even scratch it off.

After seeing what I saw the chances of metal in the filter/ pan are likely but I dont think I would be able to tell if its from before or after the piston hit.

You are correct about a lifter not working. The exhaust lift would not hold oil ( at all).

The funny thing the damage is on 1,3,5,and 7 cylinders. The 7 cylinder was the least damage. It has signs of baby scratches starting to develope. The evens show no damage at all. The rod bearing I installed a month ago show very little wear. Which surprises me beacause the piston pins jam on one half of its stroke for all the damaged cylinders.

Sounds like you might have an oil passage obstruction on one side of the motor. I also think you would be better off getting another motor at this point.

One question...why are you running 5W30 on a 289? The motor isn't set up for that thin of an oil. You're better off running a 10W30 oil. I highly doubt that had anything to do with the damage you've shown, but 5W30 is thin for that motor.

I think i made a mistake. I cant find the bottle but I did read the owners manual before I bought the oil. It said 10w-30. So either I bought the wrong bottle and you pointed that out or i typed the wrong grade oil. Either way I did change the oil for industrial 15w-40. The oil pressure did go up, and some of the knock when down after that change.
