hood hinge problem
I just re-mounted my hood on my 67. The back end of the hood would not go down all the way. The front will latch but the back sticks up about an inch. The hinges are bolted on as low as they can go and as far as we can tell there is nothing abstructing the hood or hinges. I replaced the springs but that did not solve it either. I'm assuming I need new hinges but thought i'd ask if anyone has run into this problem before I spend the money on them.
I had a similar problem as well as other hinge issues.
I had one of my original hinges collapse and pull inward. I'm not sure why it did this other than the spring overpowering it.
I got new hinges and springs. We had the new hinges on and everything was fine except it sat a little low in the rear. Then we put the springs on and one of the new hinges collapsed. In my opinion the springs are too stiff, especially the new repop ones. One spring will hold the hood up by itself.
I got another new replacement hinge from MU for free and tried lighter springs for a fiberglass hood. They were not strong enough to hold the hood up. I ended up going with an prop rod and left the lighter springs on.
Anyway, I do know that from my experience that stiff springs will make the hood sit higher in the rear and no springs make it sit lower. This could be exagerated by worn hinges.

The hinges can be slightly rotated on the bolts. Loosen the bolts, and open the hood farther, and retighten them while in this position. If this doesn't work, most likely they need to be replaced. I prefer OE springs, so reuse your originals.
