I did a V8 conversion on my 65. It is a bit of work, but was rewarding. I would do it again. My car originally had the 200.

If you want to keep it an I6, why not find a 250 or 300 and do a build off of it? The 300 is a great motor, but it might be too tall. I know that quite a few people upgrade to the 250.

Yes, the 170/200 can be upgraded easily, 25% increase would be easy.

when you increase power you start breaking things a 8 inch would be a good idea as would a more beefy tranny

The 8 inch upgrade would be good as well as front disc brakes like Granada brakes or discbrakeswap.com.

If I was going to build an inline 6, I would not use the 170. From what I understand the 200 is a much better design. I think it has more main bearings. I have heard that from several Falcon guys. I would use the 250.

Yeah, I was living in south FL when they slapped a millionaire tax on boats and planes in the 80's. Suddenly the powerboat industry was laying off a big piece of the workforce. Duh.

You can do disc brakes on your 4-bolt front end without any other modification, you can even keep the little stock wheels if you want.

The engine upgrades you should do are 3-4 exhaust splitter, dual headers with dual exhaust (stock 2" GT is perfect for this) and a 289HP style air cleaner.

The "Shelby/Arning" drop is a minimum, and a 1" front sway bar. Find a 4-turn steering gearbox. If your car was factory PS it already has this.

IF you upgrade the engine use a 66-up 200, to get the dual bell pattern. This will enable you to use your original trans, and possibly upgrade to a T5 5-speed manual at some point, if you wish. This is an excellent choice of trans for your car. The 250 uses the V8 bell pattern, which complicates your life.

Your 7" will take the 200, even if you upgrade the cam and carb, but if you really get crazy later, and use a performance head, etc., the rear will get a bit iffy.
