Can't see where that dash pid would have any affect on it stalling when putting it in gear. I would look at the timing and see if the vacuum advance on the dizzy is good.
isn't the anti stall dashpot for when a/c compressor engages. idle speed should be set, at idle in drive so that idle doesn't drop when shifted to drive.

No, the anti stall dash pot is for when the car comes out of running rpm. It activates as the car comes from a running idel to a stop. It prevents the idle from falling below curb idle. .NOTE, just because you replaced the dash pot does not ensure it's working. You have to make sure you have all the specs set properly. Not, hard, just follow the instructions and you'll be successful. BTW, your trouble sounds like you in fact have a problem with the anti dash.
Most of the mustangs I have worked on do not have the anti-stall pod and they run fine without it. I have had a few cars with the same symptoms that had ignition timing issues that is why I think it is a timing thing. I would check the diaphram in the vacuum advance and see if it is good. Also check for vacuum leaks.
What years were those on??? I have never heard of them before...mine doesnt have any of that crap.. And where is it located?

64-65 have them I know... I don't think any on the manual transmissions have them. They don't need them.
The carb shop gave me the right autolite 1100 for the year, but it was without the dashpot.. a manual trans. I got it to keep from stalling, but ran like crap and wanted to die... found the no-dashpot problem. Runs like a dream now with the Automatic transmission carburetor.
