Default Intake / Carb suggestions

'65 Coupe w/ 289 C code, stock intake/carb w/ Edelbrock long tube headers, dual exhaust, MSD ignition system/distributor/coil/wires, C4 tranny with a 2.8:1 rear end. (Also has power steering and AC)

The car runs like a dream, it seems to lack low end torque though. I am thinking an Edelbrock Performer intake with a Holley 570 or a Holley 600cfm carb.
Any suggestions or advice would be great. We want this to be an every day driver with decent performance though without getting too exotic.

We just bought the car last week, and was told that the cam was fairly mild, but I do not know for sure what cam the car has.

I'd look at the mechanical advance on the distributor first. MSD distributors are very easy to adjust, and it's very common for the timing curve to be out of whack. Something like 10* initial and 32* total by 3000rpm is what you're shooting for. If you didn't get the curve kit with the car, it's available from summit.

What kind of carb is on there now?
