brake conversion questions
ok, well the drum brakes on my 65 mustang went out on me awhile ago, and ive finally gotten all the parts to fix it, except for the push rod. the reason is, i got a dual bowl master cylinder for a 67 and a conversion kit from cj pony, but they wouldnt fit because of the brake booster, i removed the brake booster but now i dont have the right pushrod. just the one for the 67, and the one for the 65 brake booster, and it appears that the elevated mount the booster came on isnt the norm for the brake conversions ive read about which didnt have stock boosters, so my question is, has anyone done a similar mod? and is it just a push rod for a 65 that im missing, or should i get an adjustable one in case, or am i way off course here? thanks, alex
We have never been successful in finding a Dual Bowl Master to fit the stock 65 66 setup bracket. Just not enough room to fit it in the limited area.
I assume the"Conversion" is a Disc Brake?? If you are going to run Front Disc with power booster, the only way I know is to install a new Booster, with matching Master that will fit.
The other choice is non power brakes, and the best choice there is the 74 Maverick dual bowl. This comes with the exact length push rod, which Clips in to avoid falling out, Front Disc, Rear drum, bolts up perfect. Avoid rebuilt master! Buy new.
The 67 Disc Brake Master will work, but it has no push rod, and if you get a push rod, it will not clip in, the internal machining for the clip to snap is is not there, it is smooth bore, and depth of bore is different.

the only conversion is swapping out the mc, and its all ready except the push rod, and the fact that the bracket for the booster which was removed isnt the stock place to mount the mc. Do they make a kit to fix that, or does it even matter, and if it doesnt matter will a normal 65 push rod work or do i need an adjustable one? thanks for the help.
