Default Backup LIghts

Hey guys, what's up? I cant seem to get my reverse lights to work...infact I dont think they ever worked since I owned the car. Any suggestions on where i should start troubleshooting??

It use to be an automatic but, now it's a stick ( if that helps)

I'm in the same situation - they have never worked. My mechanic said I'm missing the Back Up Light Switch (click link).

If you have the factory 4-speed shifter, the switch looks like this:

With a Hurst shifter, they are next to impossible to keep adjusted correctly. It is very common for the mounting bracket to get bent thus rendering the switch inoperable.

Usually a broken or missaligned switch.

any ideas where i should start looking though? I heard that the wires for the back-up lights are right next to the wires from the netural safety switch

Yes

If applicable you should start by physically inspecting said switch shown in above photo... IF N/A then specify transmission type/make

the back-up light wires are in the same square plug as the neutral safety switch on the engine side of the firewall under the export brace. ( that is if someone hasn't cut the plug off to spliced the n.s.s. wires together.)

Not likely. manual trans Mustangs don't have a neutral safety switch.

Yeah, Ford spliced the NS wires together, at the plug end of the BU wiring harness.
