Default Door handle latch help

I have a 66 mustang

The drivers side door no longer opens when I press the button.

It was working great...then not..(sudden failure syndrome) so I think an important piece broke.

How do I trouble shoot it (access??) and what piece comes to mind....

Thanks

-Gun

Most likely the rod has dropped of the top or bottom end, due to failure of the clip.

That sounds exactly like the problem child....How would one access it?

Pull the inside door panel?

There are 2 rods.
One is the lock and one is the push button.
If the latch 'thinks' it is locked then the button won't work.
So, if both rods are good, then the latch is the problem.
