73 coupe, FMX shifting badly
Hi all, my FMX transmission in my 73 has had an issue for a number of years. Namely, when taking off from a stop, the transmission appears to lose power and makes a loan groaning noise.
I took it too many shops, but it never exhibited the problem when the mechanics were driving it.
The last guy I took it too seemed to fix it by adjusting the shifting a little. He claimed that the problem was that the tranny was trying to shift into 2nd too early.
Anyway, the problem is not back. Should I try to get it adjusted again, or rebuild it. I want the car to be a daily driver some day.
Also, which diff is intended for the FMX? I had it changed out and have wondered if the new ratio is correct. I'd have to take it apart to tell what the current ratio is.
P.S. When the noise/loss of power problem occurs, I can make it go away by manually shifting.

I would have to hear the noise to tell what it is, and even then maybe not. Its really difficult to diagnose an intermittent noise over the internet. So far I have been only partially successful..
Any rear gear will work with an FMX, the speedometer might be off but the gears will work behind it. Your engine and what you want from the car have a much greater impact on gears than the trans, although an overdrive can run a deeper gear and not over rev your engine on the highway.
