Default electric fuel pumps

OK, I'm gonna ahve a 2 parter here, so hopefully we can get this worked out. I'm wanting to upgrade to an elec pump, but don't know if I should for a street car ONLY right now. so:
1. Should I upgrade to elec???
2. Should I get the 5 psi or 6 psi, since I have an in-line regulator set at 5 psi already???

Thanks for the time and info on this, it's greatly appreciated.[8D]

I was thinking of doing the same thing to mine, and getting a holley with a built in pressure regulator.

Let us know how it goes.

I'm from the old school. "if'n it ain't broke, don't fix it." If the mechanical fuel pump is working just fine with how you drive the car, why waste money on an electric one? Besides, electric fuel pumps make a bunch of noise.

Right...your horsepower (and rpm) dictates how much fuel is required. Are you exceeding what your mechanical pump outputs? Not just psi but in gallons per hour...

[:-] What are stock mech pumps, like 80 gph. I have a stock Auto Zone replacement pump. It was 20 some bucks if I remember. Carb is a 600cfm Edel, and I drive it in town mostly between 25 to 40 mph. Sometimes I kick it deep in the azz and lay a 25 ft black mark to let off steam, but never abuse the car. The reason is, the pump is losing pressure in the line. I have a guage in-line, and I can watch it drop to 0. Last night it held pressure again for at least an 1.5 hours, but when I checked it this morning, it had leaked down. Thanks for the time and info.

Stock pumps are much less than 80 gph. What matters is that your carb has fuel in the bowl when you need it and it sounds like you do...

Thanks, I guess I'll stay with the stock one for awhile. When this one goes, I leaning hard on a 5 psi unit tho.
