I got a body wash of gas one afternoon in a parking lot under a Tarus wagon. I siphon the gas out now, every time. It doesnt take much to light you up like an F4 dropped a load of napalm on you. Its not the way I want to go out, writhing in agony from a spark... gives me shivers to think about it.

Question

Since it finally stopped raining, I was able to get under the car and clean it. Then I noticed it was not leaking at the hose although I am going to replace it. It is the sending unit/fuel connector. The tank and sending unit is not old at all so I figure I can replace the o-ring gasket and the retaining ring and that should fix it.

Has anyone used any other sealer when installing this? Or just use the o-ring gasket? I want to make sure it does not leak again if at all possible!

Thanks!!

Warren

Don't use any sealer. Just use the o-ring.

Make sure the O-ring is the right kind... should be "square" not round... Also, make sure it stays put when you turn the twist lock thing (can't remember the real name) that keeps the sending unit in place... I replaced my sending unit last year and the o-ring "slid" when I twisted the lock, and it stretched the O-ring out... So I had to find another O-ring after it leaked. And the auto shop gave me a round one, so it leaked too... on the third try, no problems. Should have been a pretty easy fix...Shoulda known better

I ordered the parts today from MustangsUnlimited and the picture showed the o-ring gasket as round. I ordered a couple extra just incase something went wrong.

It should be round, but flat like a washer and not round like a tube.
