Default 65 coupe or Fox notch

Hi guys...obviously new to the site as you can tell. I have been hunting for a fox body notch and happend upon this classic era stang. It is a 1965 coupe restoration project. 289 with a Holley 4 barrel, and edelbrock intake.

I am under no illusion that this car is some rare find, but I am considering ditching the fox search, and buying this '65. the price is $8k.

Please let me know your thoughts on the value of this car:

Looks clean in the photos, but I'd have crawl under it and look for rust or lame repairs before I'd got $8k.

I see they peeled a vinyl top off.

I hear you. I was under the car last night, and owner was very honest. He said both rear fenders were repaired for rot.

There was some light surface rust on the rear end. As for the Engine bay they put some new sheet metal in.

Can you recommend any other red flags to look for in cars like this?

It's definitely a nice looking car but it takes more than a nice paint job and good interior for justify the $8K price. I would look at the suspension. A lot of people who restore older cars go for paint and interior and neglect the 44 year old suspension, in this case. Fox notches are nice as well, I'm a sucker for coupes. I'm looking for one myself.

What are your plans for either car? daily driver? racer? weekend cruiser?

Cool thanks for the advice. Not going to ever see a race track. Def just a weekend cruiser, maybe on a perfect weather day in the summer drive it to work (20 miles), but nothing more than that.

If that's the case, I say definitely go for the 65, assuming the suspension is good and you give it a good look over.

depends on what you want i have a fox notch and a classic.... the notch is a great daily driver but the classic gets the looks

now honestly if i was gonna spend 8k id buy a 5K fox and a 3k rust free classic to play around in and rebuild

or substitute the idea of a notch with a SVO mustang mmm tasty

Now that is an interesting idea. Of course when I started out on this hunt I was looking for an unassuming notch in the $4500 range that I could tinker with.
