Default antifreeze question

I got my 65 fastback out yesterday and went for a good 2 hour ride, when I got back, nothing, no leaks, all good; but I came out this morning and there was a puddle of antifreeze under the car...it looks like it dripped out of the top of the radiator where it connects via tubing to the motor, I checked the level before taking it out yesterday, and it was about an inch below the inside ring of the filler....is that too much fluid???? if I just take it around the block for a 15 min ride or so, no problems...it just seems to happen after long rides and the motor cools down.....whats going on??? thanks fellas

Could you be more specific about where you think it is leaking from?

It sounds like your saying that the overflow/expansion line is leaking. Is that what your saying?

If your not running an expansion tank then the coolant will be lost on the ground. Most cars of this era did not come factory with one.

at the top of the radiator where the large tube from the top of the motor comes into the radiator....I hope that helps

Oh, So you think the upper radiator hose is the culprit? Is it a newer hose? It may be that the clamp is not staying tight.

as long as you have an overflow tank when the metal expands it will push the excess into the tank

This is normal. Do not fill above this level.

I was having a problem with a small leak around the thermostat housing as the engine cooled, wasn't even a gasket (or a thermostat for that matter).

Not good on both counts. You need the Ford 190° stainless 'stat with the air bleed.

I filled the radiator back up with some antifreeze this afternoon, took it for a spin, and didn't see any leaks after putting back in the garage....I'll check tomorrow morning, but like I said, I just went through and made sure all the hosing was tight and whatnot
