Default origional number engine

How can you tell if the engine in your car is numbered to your car. Where do you look on the engine to find the serial number?

Casting number should be on the side of the block near the starter.

You can't tell if an engine is specific to one car or another. You can tell by the casting number if the engine is of the correct era. If you have a C8 engine casting number in a 65 Mustang it will not be the correct engine. There is no serial number or VIN number on the block.
