installing new door handles
It's an easy job. Just be careful not to drop the nuts in the door.
If I remember, there are two studs that hold the handle in place. You'll remove the nuts (with star washers?) from the inside. Remove the door panel and roll up the window.
Correct me if I'm wrong here:
There is a rod that goes down from the push-button mechanism to the door latch. That rod is held in place by a little metal clip at the bottom that you can pry off with your fingernail or a small flat head screwdriver. The end of the rod is bent at 90 degrees so it can plug into the door latch mechanism. The clip keeps it in place and you can't remove the rod without unsnapping the clip. The clip does NOT come out with the rod. Feel for it with your fingers.
Also there should be a plastic bushing where the rod plugs into the door latch. Try not to drop anything into the door or it will be messy to get it out (rubbing your arms on the greasy window track, etc.).
You might want or need to reuse the factory push button mechanism as the repro with your new handles may not fit or work well. That part is held in place with a couple of screws, I think.

be careful to not brake them or loose them. You can get them new no problem. But if you don't have them handy and loose them you'll be stuck until you get replacement ... and they're quite flimsy

this is exactly correct. Roll up window, remove door panel, remove clip and rod (easier to do while handle still secure), undo two nuts with star washers and it should slide right out from the out side of the door.
Do they reproduce the push button yet? If I remember right when I was looking at new door handles it said I had to reuse my old pushbutton, or put in a new one from a 67/68 which is slightly different.
I bought satin finished handles a few years ago and they came with the buttons and mechanism, but I think 69 is a bit different? The old ones were fine so I reused them. This may be kind of obvious, but just to be safe, when you put on the handle, quickly thread the nuts a bit on both studs. You don't want the loose handle to pivot and scratch your paint.
