wheel bearing replacement?
#11
well I got my subframes welded in this morning, so the only thing standing between me and a much needed alignment are the wheel bearings. From what's been said, it sounds like I should pull the hubs and inspect my wheel bearings before I go ahead and buy new ones. I'm going to Arizona this weekend to visit family, I'm also thinking about relocating there, but I'll get on that project when I get back next week. I'll be sure to post pics of whatever I find.

What I did regarding torquing the nut back down is tighten the nut down just past hand tight, spin the hub around, loosen the nut, spin around, then torque it to spec. I just did whatever the ford spec was in the shop manual, I believe it was 17-25 ft lbs but don't quote me on that.
And regarding packing the bearings I did it the old fashioned way, take a slab of grease in your palm and just repeatedly smash the bearing (on the side with the big gap) into the grease with your other hand, working your way around the bearing. Do this several times until grease comes out the other end. Then smear a layer of grease around the outside of the bearing and the inside of the hub and reinstall.
Also you should replace your bearing seal as well. That wasn't too hard either, just be sure not to bend it when putting the new one in.
I pretty much got all my info through google and youtube, just look up write ups and stuff and you will understand the rest when you take the hub off and understand how the bearings go in.
