Default '66 mustang stalling out?

I have a 1966 mustang with a 2 barrel 289 automatic. The car is stock with the exception of headers and flowmaster exhaust. The engine runs great and accelerates perfectly in park and drive.

The problem with my car is that when the car is in drive and im at a dead stop, when i press the gas hard then quickly let off my car stalls out. It easily turns back on and i can drive again but with the same problem. Other then this the engine runs great.

What are all the possible problems it can be??

You could try a Dashpot which slows the rate at which the throttle closes to help prevent stalling.

I believe all '66s automatics originally had dashpots. They're available from the usual sources.

+1 on the Dashpot. Should do the trick.

What's your idle set at? Could be a bit low?
