The antenna shouldn't be very hard to do just have patience. You shouldn't have to remove anything except for the antenna itself. Make sure that the antenna cable is not going to interferre with the heater box.

I got the Scott Drake repro antenna so I assume that's as close to 'stock' as it gets

to aid in the install. if you tie a string to the old antenna wire before you remove it you can then tie the string to the new antenna wire to help guide it back through to the passenger compartment.

Oh well no luck. The old Antenna won't come off. Looks like the screw thread is stuck, it won't twist. I don't have the tools to 'brute force' it off without damaging my hood so I guess I'll have to go somewhere to have it done for me. *sigh*

Default No hole for antenna

I just became an owner of a 1968 Mustang coupe with no hole for an antenna. I'm assuming a previous owner installed a new fender and didn't drill a hole for an antenna. My question is - do I need to figure out how to get a new hole drilled where an antenna should go or is there a sound system today that may not require an antenna?

Well, you can use the antenna template, of course. Foolish of the PO to have no antenna, cutting the hole after painting is inherently more risky the before painting. A small hole saw, then a notch filed with a small round file will do. Tape the spot for safety before cutting. I like to degrade the tape adhesive by sticking it on something first, even your trousers will do. The only hard part is fishing the antenna cable through the fender AND through the side of the cowl. A coat hanger wire can help with that.

Of course, any radio unit that has tape player, disc or even mp3 capability will work without an antenna, but sooner or later you'll want to operate the radio, too.

Hard to understand why the antenna would not be reinstalled by whomever replaced the previous fender. Since I haven't cut through painted metal, I'm not sure what the small hole saw would be. I'll have to do some investigating on that. Then I'm assuming it will take a drill to drill through the fender and side of the cowl to run the cable through.

The hole is detailed on the template. No drilling needed in the side cowl unless that was replaced and not drilled.

Be careful with this, I'm pretty sure it's the 65-66 template.
