**1969 Power Steering Pump questions**
Prob: Everything works, but it takes too much effort to turn the wheel.
I just replaced the steering linkage, control valve (new Bendix, not Ford), and tires. The PS pump was completely shot, so I replaced it with a rebuilt from a local Pep Boys. When the car is stationary, you have to grab the wheel to turn it. When the old stock pump was working, you could turn the wheel lock-to-lock with your finger.
The pulley is the same. Is it the pump? Could it be the new control valve? Any guesses?
I'm tempted to just get another rebuilt, but I'm not sure if that's the prob.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

The only way to know for sure is to pressure test the pump. Mine had a similar issue and I had a bad control value out of the box. The pump pressure tested great...replaced the new control value I just put on...boom, back steering with my finger.
I only changed the pump. First I just rebuilt the old one, but it still ran badly like it was out of round (it was noisy), so I bought the rebuilt pump. I only changed the pump and not the tank, pulley, etc.
I think the Pep boys pump might have been the culprit. I since found out that the Bendix valve is OEM that Ford used so it shouldn't be the issue (it's a new part). The hoses are not switched.
I am probably going to get another rebuilt pump from a Mustang vendor, prob. Texas Must Parts. I do a LOT of city driving, so steering has got to be easier.
If anyone has a suggestion for a vendor, great.
Thanks,
CP
