Faded Carpet Options?
I've got a 66 Mustang (automatic) with light blue carpet. The carpet is faded from a life in the south.
What options do I have? I know I can buy new carpet pretty cheap. I afraid of trying to replace it myself (climbing under the car to mess with bolts when the car can fall on me, not being able reassemble . . .).
Will dying the carpet work or just create mess? How do I dye it and whith what?
Does anyone know of any links on the Internet that describe the carpet replacement process?

OK, first off, the 66 isn't supposed to have light blue, it's supposed to be "Ford Blue". Which is odd, because it's a lighter shade than the dark blue used elsewhere in the 66 blue interior.
If it's faded Ford Blue, it can be dyed, but this is kinda iffy, and hard to do evenly. Replacement is the best policy.

Replacing the carpets easy. I've done on two 66 Mustangs. You will need to remove the seat bolts and the seat belt bolts. Once you get the new carpet layed out get under the car with a screw driver an poke new holes through the new carpet.
If you want to be really cheesy, cheesy almost to the point of being cool, they make spray bomb dye. What I remember from my youth is that it holds up alright. I would think the usual Mustang houses would have it.
I would get a new carpet.
If you are fairly thin and skinny you "should" be able to get under the car without jacking it up and get the 8 bolts out that hold the seats in place.
If you do have to jack it up to get under the car do it safely and use two jack stands to hold the front end up off the ground so you can do so. That is no different then what you would do if you changed the oil in your car.
It is a safe process as long you use your head and be safe and not take chances, that is where you can get into trouble quick.

so you are probably right. The bolts would not be that far under. This would be one of the easier things to do.
