'67 frame rail question
I took a look at a '67 fastback this weekend. What i found to be very odd, was that on the flanges of both framerails under the front floor pans was sheetmetal screws coming from the top of the floors through the rail flanges. The frame was welded to the floor pan. The owner said that the jersy plant did this to hold the pan inplace for the spot welds. I have never seen screws used like this from the factory, only on repair work.
The floor is obviously not new and has been undercoated. No obvious weld seams in the tranny tunnel, to the torque box or on the wheel well side of the toe board. So if it has been worked on then they hid the seams well but left the screws in? The rt rail has been tweeked from improper jacking and the rail held to the pan well. The car has been painted and bondoed in the past. So it does have a history of repairs. If work has been done then it looks older than the dynacorn one peice floors.
I am thinking there are two possibilities.
1. The owner is telling the truth about the jersy plant using screws.
2. Somebody did a good job hiding seams but got lazy about the screws.
So i am putting it out there to ask, did the jersy plant use screws on the frame rails?
