Default ----- quick 351w question -----

I found a 1975 truck with a "fred jones'' 351w create engine in it. Rust has taken the truck. but the engine sounds great! and the guy seems to be telling the truth? and says he had the engine was put in 2001 and it only has 35,000 miles on it. Hes asking $1,000 for the whole thing.. Does this sound like a good deal? I kinda need to jump on it if it is.

You have to rely on your own good judgment on such an issue, but I can point out a few things for you although they might very well be obvious already.

If you are getting a good running engine out of the deal and you have a need for the engine, that probably justifies the deal. If you have a place and tools to part it out, that truck should have a 9 inch rear end that has at least several hundred dollars in value. On top of that the crusher price for what you don't use will probably amount to another couple of hundred.

Only you know what is best for you. If you have the time, facilities and energy it sounds like a good deal.

whats a "Fred Jones" crate engine? I'd look at the casting numbers if you can find them, one is on the block above the starter, there is also numbers on the heads if you take the valve covers off.
